In mineralogy, a pseudomorph is a mineral or mineral compound that appears in a crystal system, resulting from a substitution process in which the appearance and dimensions remain constant, but the original mineral is replaced by another. The name literally means "false form."
Applying this idea to visual art, a pseudomorph is a composite image which combines photos with generative imagery. The resulting amalgams deliberately blur the line between reality and artifice, creating a sense of ambiguity that encourages viewers to question their perceptions.
I aim to challenge the viewer's assumptions about the nature of photography and photorealism, and the relationship between the physical and the virtual. Combining these disparate yet visually similar elements, I explore the new visual language that speaks to the complexity and oddity of our rapidly changing world and ultimately invite the viewer to question the world around them and the boundaries between imagination and reality.
